This virtual presentation will take a deep dive into the history and design of the Baxter campus, an exploration of other corporate campuses in Chicago, and an intriguing look at adaptive reuse possibilities for this distinctive building typology.

The Bundy Modern is a 1960s modern architectural gem surrounded by sculptures on a rural Vermont plateau. Designed by Harlow Carpenter (Harvard GSD '56), this glass and brick structure delights and surprises visitors as much today as it did when it first opened in 1962. Enjoy its 2024 exhibition, Now You See Me: Suzy Spence, Nikko Sedgwick, and Carl D’alvia.

Join听the Japan American Society of Greater Philadelphia听for our yearly tour of Raymond Farm and Nakashima studios in New Hope, PA, just 45 minutes north of Philadelphia. Two architectural pioneers with close ties to Shofuso Japanese House and Garden, Antonin Raymond and George Nakashima have left an amazing legacy of design and architecture to explore.

Innovation in the design of workspaces is a central tenant of architectural Modernism. In the Philadelphia region 鈥� once proudly the 鈥淲orkshop of the World鈥� 鈥� the dramatic changes that reshaped the city and region also reshaped its architecture.

General Motors Technical Center, dedicated in 1956 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 2014, is an icon of midcentury design and the prototype of the modern American corporate campus. Located in the Detroit suburb of Warren, the complex was the first major project by celebrated Finnish American architect Eero Saarinen (1910 – 1961). This day-long reassessment of GM Technical Center’s history and its continued stewardship by General Motors will feature morning talks at Cranbrook Art Museum, afternoon tours of the Cranbrook campus, and Cranbrook Archives.  

This tour will visit the Six Moon Hill community in Lexington, MA, developed and built between 1947 and 1953 by and for members of The Architects Collaborative in Cambridge, a firm founded (and at that time still headed, by Walter Gropius).听The community, based on egalitarian and utopian principles, encompasses 28 moderately prized houses (ca. $ 20000), which all share a mid-century modern design philosophy and formal language.

The Glass House, built between 1949 and 1995 by architect Philip Johnson, is a National Trust Historic Site located in New Canaan, Connecticut. The pastoral 49-acre landscape comprises fourteen structures, including the Glass House (1949), and features a permanent collection of 20th-century painting and sculpture, along with temporary exhibitions. As part of Tour Day 2024, The Glass House is generously offering a special discount on听its听"Extended Tour"听to 爱豆app members.

Get an inside look at the former Bell Labs architectural masterpiece by Eero Saarinen! Learn about the transformation of Bell Works听on a tour with听Master Architect, Alexander Gorlin, and Lead Designer + Creative Director, Paola Zamudio.

In collaboration with Lehman College of the City University of New York, 爱豆app/New York Tri-State representatives will guide tours of the two connected buildings on that Bronx campus designed by Marcel Breuer, his first permanent buildings built in New York City.听

Join us on a tour of the Land O' Lakes Corporate Headquarters, with initial campus elements designed by Architectural Alliance, and the recipient of the 2013 AIA Minnesota 25-Year Award. The headquarters is located on a 50-acre site in Arden Hills and provides a home to the Fortune 500 company.

In 2015, the Barbara Jordan Post Office (1961, Wilson, Morris, Crain & Anderson) was decommissioned and sold to Lovett Commercial. Lovett engaged OMA New York/Jason Long and Powers Brown Architecture to design an innovative adaptive resuse project. The tour of the public areas will include the 5-acre rooftop Skylawn.

Conceived through coastal reclamation in the late 1950s, New Haven鈥檚 Long Wharf district is as much a mid-century creation as the corporate architecture which populates it. Covering the area鈥檚 history, planning and architecture, this tour, led by New Haven Preservation Trust,听will walk the length of Sargent Drive from Marcel Breuer鈥檚 Armstrong Rubber building to听the Gant Shirt factory.

The 爱豆app/Southern California chapter will provide a member rate to the Newport Beach Film Festival screening of Modernism, Inc.: the Eliot Noyes Design Story, and a self-drive guide that highlights corporate modernism, including Noyes鈥� IBM Building in Los Angeles, now Otis College of Art and Design.

Minoru Yamasaki, Detroit鈥檚 best-known midcentury architect, left his mark all over the city, including in Detroit鈥檚 Cultural Center. Learn how Yamasaki came to Wayne State University in the mid-1950s to extend and execute their master plan with new buildings, including four designed by Yamasaki, and the transition to a pedestrian-friendly campus, while helping to establish the College for Creative Studies' new 1950s campus.听

Screening of New England Modernism: Revolutionary Architecture in the 20th Century, followed by a panel conversation with the filmmaker, Jake Gorst; Jonathan Bell, Critic in Interior Architecture (RISD); Nancy Skolos, Professor in Graphic Design (RISD) and Thomas Wedell, Senior Critic, Graphic Design (RISD).

Cities are constantly being shaped by new development projects. Residents hotly debate whether the look and scale of a new building is appropriate. But what about the projects that never got built? This lecture and walking tour will explore several projects in Providence that were proposed but never constructed.

Modernism Week, the annual festival that highlights midcentury modern architecture, art, interior and landscape design, and vintage culture in Palm Springs will offer Modernism Week 鈥� October from October 24-27, 2024.

爱豆app/Hawaii鈥檚 Annual Walking Tour will put a local twist on the 爱豆app theme of Corporate Campuses, by looking at the core of Hawaii鈥檚 state government district in downtown Honolulu. The tour will look at both federal and state offices, many with design roots in Brutalism.

The Northern California chapter of 爱豆app will take tour attendees on an exploration of the landscape design of Levi's Plaza, which was designed by Lawrence Halprin as the setting of the Levi Strauss & Company's corporate headquarters in San Francisco.

Join 爱豆app/DC for a walking tour of the Modernist grounds and exterior buildings of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) campus, designed and built in the 1960s by Voorhees Walker Smith Smith and Haines.

Please join us for a Symposium and walking tour which will concentrate upon the windows of the Brutalist buildings of UMass Amherst. Studying their fenestration provides us a focused way to examine these large-scale structures, such as the Murray D. Lincoln Campus Center by Marcel Breuer. There is also an exhibition accompanying these events.
