Yamasaki in Detroit's Cultural Center 2024

Minoru Yamasaki, Detroit’s best-known midcentury architect, left his mark all over the city, including in Detroit’s Cultural Center. Learn how Yamasaki came to Wayne State University in the mid-1950s to extend and execute their master plan with new buildings, including four designed by Yamasaki, and the transition to a pedestrian-friendly campus, while helping to establish the College for Creative Studies' new 1950s campus.

Tour highlights include the magnificent McGregor Memorial Conference Center and its Reflecting Pool and Sculpture Garden.

This tour is organized by Preservation Detroit and will be led by Kathleen Marcaccio.
