Glass Boxes and Beyond

Image details

Our final day “Glass Boxes and Beyond” offers a view through the rigorous glass panes of mid-century works as well as beyond the mid-century to more recent and pluralistic expressions of the modern movement.

Morning Sessions 11:00 am - 12:30 pm ET

THE MODERN VALUE PROPOSITION presents examples of character-defining elements of late modern architecture, including post modernism. Focused content includes special attention to late modern glass and the intersection between business, branding, and architecture.

Early Afternoon Sessions 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm ET

RECONSTRUCTING THE MODERN LEGACY presentation renovation panel illustrates how Modern buildings can be reprogrammed, updated, and preserved successfully. Of particular focus is how methodical and careful analysis of original design approaches, forms, and details are essential in preserving the useful life in the work of Brutalist and Postmodern architecture to aid in the design of strategic interventions. For works created in the lifetime of an architect, to what degree does the original architect become engaged with the rehabilitation of a building? Following these panels, a series of one-hour programs will take us back to mid-century era structures by a diverse range of architects in various locations.
