Jennifer Walkowski serves as Historic Preservation Program Analyst in the Survey and National Register Unit at the NY State Historic Preservation Office, serving Western NY. She holds a BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology and a Master of Architectural History from the University of Virginia where she studied under Dell Upton and Richard Guy Wilson. Ms. Walkowski worked as a preservation consultant in Buffalo for several years, where she founded and served as President of the Louise Bethune Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians. Throughout her nearly twenty-year career in historic preservation, she has worked to nominate thousands of buildings to the State and National Registers, including Louis Kahn’s masterpiece First Unitarian Church in Rochester, NY. Her researching interests focus on the history of the city of Buffalo and Western New York, early Modern architecture, and urban planning. Ms. Walkowski has been active in heritage tourism, scholarship and lectures, and education efforts throughout New York State.
