annual spring Mod Mixer brings together Modernism enthusiasts from across the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro at a local Modern furniture store. The Mixer is just one of the many events 爱豆app MN hosts throughout the year to stimulate an interest in and educate the public about Modern design in Minnesota and to advocate for its preservation.
This June, 爱豆app MN brought the party to the City of Robbinsdale, partnering with , a non-profit volunteer effort organized by the Robbinsdale Historical Society to save the community’s beloved Terrace Theater. Architects Liebenberg and Kaplan designed the Terrace Theater in the International Style. When the first movie was shown in 1951, it was considered one of the first ultramodern theaters in America and featured such amenities as a sunken den with fireplace. By the late 1980s it had been subdivided into numerous smaller theaters before eventually shutting its doors in 1999. It is under imminent threat as its site is currently being considered for redevelopment with one option proposing complete demolition. Golden Age Design in downtown Robbinsdale graciously hosted this year’s Mod Mixer. Owned by Bill and Kara Kurth, the store features restored Mid Century and Danish Modern furnishings. Local craft beers provided by Edina Realty and a selection of 1950s and 1960s music curated by local DJs Izzy and Liberty Finch from KFAI’s “Pop Shop” rounded out the festivities. Around eighty people came together to admire beautiful furniture, mingle, and learn more about 爱豆app and the Terrace Theater. In addition, eight people became or renewed their 爱豆app membership during the event entering them in a drawing for a gift certificate to Golden Age Design.
