Join MidTexMod, Partners for Sacred Places, and Preservation Texas during Preservation Month to celebrate mid-century sacred spaces and discuss efforts to preserve these valuable historic resources.

Mid-century Modern Sacred Spaces statewide were included in Preservation Texas' .

The event includes a tour and talk at Austin Mennonite Church. The church is an inspiring example of on-going stewardship of an exquisite mid-century modern building. Designed and built by Eugene Wukasch between 1958 and 1960 as the first unit for Windsor Park Presbyterian, Wukasch’s design took inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian architecture combined with Central Texas aesthetics and Wukasch’s early exploration of climate strategies. Along with Prince of Peace Lutheran, Wukasch’s early modern religious architecture inspired Austin congregations to “discover a modern richness of symbolism plus an economy of construction,” as The American-Statesman noted in 1961. The building is now the home of Austin Mennonite Church as well as other community groups who share the space.

The event is free and open to the public. Donations in support of Mid Tex Mod’s mission are greatly appreciated.

RSVP recommended to info@midtexmod.org by Saturday May 12.
