A Modernists' Challenge to Preservation
As we close this event, Sara Bronin, Chair Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, will send participants off with a conversation about “challenge" across two dimensions.
First, she will surface the unfortunate reality that, especially in complex urban environments, not every story ends well for modern architecture. Why? Bronin will discuss material, subjective and policy challenges to protecting the places °®¶¹app has prioritized. Then, she will challenge attendees to influence solutions, explaining why preservation and regulation go hand in hand. Bronin will offer entry points to engaging with federal, state, and local decision-makers, as well as legal frameworks, to improve better protection for modern sites. Among other things, she will incorporate her recent research on local preservation ordinances and highlight the intersection of climate and preservation, previewing next year’s °®¶¹app meeting in Miami.
